Both tools are based on inventions and software developed at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. The Spellcheck for Bias tool produces automated data on character prominence and traits from scripts. The Geena Davis Inclusion Quotient (GD-IQ) computes automated screen time for gender and race and speaking time for gender.
The Geena Davis Institute research is also unique in its use of automated visual and text analysis tools for media representation.
